🔥 Forum Update – report problems here

I updated this forum’s phpbb version. Everything should be running correctly. But since it was my first update ever, I may have broken one thing or another.
Please report any problems here!

Well, I was going to report that the forum was down for a while this morning, but there doesn't seem to be a backup forum to report it on.

Haha, yeah. TODO for next time: Rename the directory on the server and place an index.html with a service announcement under the original path.
Even more so because I noticed that during that short time window, anyone can take control of the forum settings without login lest they know the correct URL of the configuration page.

Font and text size changed, didn’t they?!

Looks the same to me, but then again I often don't notice really obvious changes which gets me into trouble at home sometimes...

It may not be your fault after all – the browser caches the CSS stylesheet and may re-use it from back when everything was okay.
(Don’t know if this excuse works at home, though.)
Ctrl+
F5 may be required to force a reload. I settled for
Bahnschrift now because it gives me a sense of familarity … let’s see how it goes. A bit heavy, I think …

I had to update the forum’s PHP version to avoid my hoster charging me for maintenance.
You should not notice any difference – but if you do, please it report here!

Weird. I just got a forum 'notification' message, but it was a about a reply made last July. I haven't changed any forum settings.

Was it about the EF2000 Help File thread?
viewtopic.php?t=94
I edited my answer there, and that may have triggered the notification. (I noticed after uninstalling Visual Studio 2019 that I can’t compile help files any more because a DLL is missing. Improved the workflow to explicitly include the DLL.)

Yes, exactly that thread so that explains things.
Probably this stuck out as there wasn't a 'new post' showing as you'd just edited an existing thread.

I deemed it not worth a new post because I found the probability of you using my build system hints astronomically low. But I’ll change this behavior now that I know the forum won’t let me sneak in things below the radar anyway

In case the forum goes down for a short time this week:
My webhoster is pushing me again – need to update to PHP 8.2.
Guess I’ll also update the phpbb software which
should be okay with PHP 8.2.
I have to do a backup before touching anything, so all this has become like a full-afternoon thing … need to find time for it this week.

Migration seems successful. PHP updated, phpbb updated, all plugins updated, styles updated.
Looks like the font changed, or more specifically: The user font is now enforced throughout the whole forum, and not just on the front page. We’ll see how this goes.
