Currently under attack from crawlers again. It’s not as bad as May/Christmas 2024 when ChatGPT hammered the server, but almost.

Note that only 50 % of accesses are categorized as crawling. The bot, whatever it is, uses no user agent string. Just Chrome on Windows like most legit visitors.

All accesses originate from these IPs:
  • 43.153.241.0
  • 43.163.22.0
  • 43.163.23.0
  • 43.173.169.0
  • 43.173.172.0
I’m blocking them in hopes that it gets better.

Those IP addresses are linked to a Tencent owned Singapore company. But that's as much research as I'm doing...

Yeah, probably inhaling the whole internet again to train their AI. With this forum 3000 times per day to make it really really good on TAW answers!

As part of my backup routine, I have optimized the images posted to the forum. Let me know if any image is broken.

Any noticeable effect with less traffic from Yandex over the last couple of days?

I had the same thought and collected statistics yesterday, but no, the Ukrainian attacks on Russian server farms do not have any noticeable impact on our spammers.

“legit” visitors in white, scrapers & spammers grayed out:

So it’s within normal noise and whatever happened September 18 had a much greater effect.

No change with my (clearly Russian) spam mails per day either (graph by Claude, which is surprisingly good at interpreting my Thunderbird profile):

Oct 13 is not much because the day just started.

Our content is probably not political enough to attract the bot hordes.
