EF2000 .map files

Post by mikew »

There are 2 large (569kB) files which on first glance in a hex editor look like ordinary level files 'gone wrong'
newworld_map.PNG
newworld_map.PNG (755.29 KiB) Viewed 138 times
..but if the bytes per row is adjusted to 256, the second part of the file looks like this:
newworld_map2.PNG
newworld_map2.PNG (1013.94 KiB) Viewed 138 times
So, this may be a moving map system with the first part of the file acting as index to the second.
...and their names also hint at that:
lev\norway.map
lev\newworld.map

A pity there's only two of them.

...and slightly related:
lev\world.4ev
lev\world.4e2
lev\clouds.4e2
lev\clouds.4ev

I don't think there's much in them, but an experiment with the 400x400 tile system maybe.

Oh wow this is so amazing! Can’t wait to decode it. We have moving maps in EF2000 and a tiled moving map in F22, so it can’t be that hard implementing it, right? 😁

World is known and IIRC I can’t load it because one file is missing. I need to check which one it is …
