EF2000 Mystery File

Post by Krishty »

We have another source code candidate.

The file with hash 6955A212 in Super EF2000’s did.dat has a size of 2,079,371 bytes. There seems to be some kind of header but no obvious file structure. Then follows almost 2,000,000 bytes which are extremely high-entropy, i.e. either compressed or encrypted. Or it could just be sound data 🤷

I attached that file for reference. Anything known about it?

The file has some wave-like structure. It could be a lookup table for sin/cos/log/exp or some other hard-to-compute function.

I've just spent an hour looking at this, before noticing that the regular section at the start was about 0x300 bytes long, and the first 2 bytes are 00 01 and realization suddenly dawned...

I'm sorry to say it's this animation, which is called 'spir.256' elsewhere, although maybe not the same file.
