Re: Away for a week
Anything I do is not going to be of the magnitude of TFXplorer, and I'm quite happy to use glfw or SDL for cross-platformness. Up until about 2017, I wouldn't be using anything except Windows, and it would be VB5 I'd craft my amazing programs in. From about 2010, I started using Python for pure cons...

Re: Away for a week
The plan was to surprise you by finishing off TFXplorer and making it cross-platform before you got back.
It's a bit harder than I thought and I've only got as far as a CMake tutorial.
As a hobbyist, I'm a bit disillusioned by the plethora SW development options to be honest.

I doubt I'll have posted anything significant before you get back.
Hmmn, a vacation seems like a good idea.

Re: TFX Forum Archive updated
I did a search of my hard drives for TFX related stuff a while ago, although I've found another couple of drives since then. I'll go through them when I get a chance.
I guess Polak or MarkG posted those pictures back in 2007/2008...

Re: TFX Forum Archive updated
Great! Regarding the '480 bytes of doom' thread, I'm pretty sure I have '4planeanalysisv1.jpg' and '4planeanalysisv2.jpg' somewhere and it's just a case of finding them. This may take a while though... EDIT: Actually, I don't have to as they're here: https://app.box.com/s/y155l15jq7fevvbyimwhilmo5eh...

Re: Important CSim threads
Cool! There's a lot of stuff on there already, and I guess it will only get better.
A lot of your early imageshack links are dead now, but some seem to have been repurposed like the first picture in this link:

Did you do anything about that? If not, I might try and see if I can make some custom scraper.A list of CSim threads I must save before CSim vanishes entirely:

Re: Jet Engine Simulation
That 'Bad Torque' error might only be when pressing F5 to spawn a new plane with some 'heavy' joystick input at the same time. Yeah, the speed thing may just be my expectations. Some strange things happening if I go into 'explore' mode and move to a really high altitude before pressing F5. Once it j...

Re: Jet Engine Simulation
Well, maybe this weekend instead... I'm getting an occasional error box which as the word 'Torque' in it. Not often enough to pin it down to a specific condition. Also, the plane seems sluggish in level flight at say 36000ft. Applying full afterburner, it seems to take a long time to go from 200 to ...

I don't see that sign in this list:

Sorry, I'm getting a bit cynical regarding stuff on the internet.

Well, I was going to report that the forum was down for a while this morning, but there doesn't seem to be a backup forum to report it on.

Re: Jet Engine Simulation
The other reason being, it is more complicated that you think Very incisive since I'd say it's already too complicated to model in a general way, and knowing that probably still underestimates how complicated it is. :D Regarding the jet engine itself,I guess some sort of 'black box' model is the wa...

Re: overhauled flight model
Actually, 'airbase.txt' should be 'airbase.dat'. It's a text only file though.
Interesting theory, but I don't think Typhoon has anywhere near TAW's level of airbase sophistication.

Re: overhauled flight model
The file 'airbase.txt' looks like it describes the nodes for the 15 or so different airbases, but I think some of it is overridden by hardcoded values. One think I never worked out was that if I replace the Learjets in the takeoff missions with F-14s, they will spawn in the military part of the airf...

Re: overhauled flight model
Cool! Maybe you could read the mission files (.mdl ?) and maybe start the sim at the first 'in the air' waypoint. We could then compare TAW's and TFXplorer's autopilot behaviour in parallel.
I think I'd find that amusing at least.

IDA
Does anyone here have any experience writing IDA plugins? In 2007, I hacked some code that would dump register values and some bytes off the stack to a file if a breakpoint was hit, and would like to recreate the experience...but maybe do it properly this time. I've managed to recreate a crude dev e...

If I run the game with a -menu command line option, one of the dialogs posted earlier gets activated:
