Re: Flight Model

Are the tables commented by IDA to help us guess what each entry does?
I assume these tables are all in the source as we've never found anything flight model related in the extracted files.

Re: TFX Animations

By the way, I think EF2000 uses this system exclusively for the 'Intel inside' thing described in spir.256. That's lucky, as I'd have to use the Dosbox debugger to do the same for TFX. My interpretation of spir.256 is not quite how it looks at the start of EF2000 though... _spir.gif Not exactly a pr...

Re: TFX Animations

This line: "Each chunk of data is made up of a single 2 byte word, then a 4 byte pointer to the next block, then some 'payload'." ...is not quite correct. After the palette comes 2 bytes, giving the 'type' mentioned earlier, then for each frame, there's a 4 byte number giving the size of d...

'inft' describes 40 frames which I've just stuck together with Imagemagick.

The way these animations are directed is yet to be found, but there are some parser files with extension .par which may hold the key.

Re: TFX Animations

There is still plenty to understand about this process, but there are 2 types of file with a flag in the .256 showing how it should be handled. 'Type 1' files look like they have one base frames, then subsequent frames provide some delta. noname3382_0.png This an example where most of the animation ...

TFX Animations

Here's part of the first post of a thread I started over at Combatsim. The rest of that thread is largely irrelevant now, so I'll start again here: In the extracted set of TFX2 files, there's a strange beast called 'anim\spir.256' which, as far as I know, we haven't looked at before. For Inferno, th...

Re: MEdit

Yes, something that needs to be investigated. As I understand it, OSL1 is a common format, but different files are produced depending on whether it was aimed at Adlib, Soundblaster or Roland. The paths and extensions visible in the TFX did.dat hint at this, but I haven't proved it yet.

MEdit

In the extracted data for TFX and inferno, there are a bunch of MIDI files which start with 'OSL1' as the first 4 bytes. Probably the 'OS' relates to Ocean Software who provided the music to their various developers and used a program called MEdit as part of the process. Here is a link to an article...

Re: Embedding YouTube & Co.

I downloaded everything off Photobucket again, and deleted the 100 or so pictures above my 250 picture arbitrary limit. These were dated between 2011 and 2015. This will result in some broken links in the CSIM forum I think. I left the 250 pictures that were uploaded 2007-2011 in Photobucket, but ha...

Re: Embedding YouTube & Co.

OK, thanks! I hadn't noticed the attachment button. New things tend to be invisible to me. :D A couple of years ago, I redownloaded all my pictures that I'd previously uploaded to Photobucket as I was expecting them to remove access unless I paid them something. But the drive I downloaded them to be...

Re: Trouble help needed.

Once TAW has started up and if there are no sound effects when you click the menu items, I suggest you ALT-TAB to the desktop and see whether Windows has muted TAW in the 'Volume Mixer'. I think this has been the most common cause of intermittent 'no sound' issues over the last couple of years. Why ...

Re: Embedding YouTube & Co.

Looks like he's done some recent(ish) EF2000 videos as well. :)

What are we doing about pictures? I don't bother with Photobucket et al these days and uploaded images directly to the combatsim forum to illustrate my meagre modding attempts.

Re: Welcome!

are you aware that a click with the middle mouse button (i.e. wheel) opens any link in a new tab, and so does pressing CTRL while clicking a link? No, I wasn't. Thanks! That's 4 shortcuts I know now. :D Driver kind of looked older, but that was me overestimating the graphics landscape in 1998. A st...

Re: Welcome!

Wow! That Driver project is impressive. No small dedication there. I wonder how that game compares in complexity to TFX1.

The site looks good as it is. If it's possible to set 'something' that makes links to external sites automatically open in a new tab, then it would be even better.

Re: some bad foreshadowing

I don't think Spear/Jolly07 (and whatever other username he went under) was particularly helpful towards the end. SimHQ might have been 'wrong', but it was their site.

Re: Welcome!

Thank you for doing this!
Personally, I prefer the old style forum format for stuff where I might start a thread about some obscure aspect of a game, then post again 6 months later.
