Re: 40th Anniversary Edition

Yes, it's the same system. The insignia are in 'markings.tm'. I'll put it here but it needs to be combined with a palette.
On page 1 of this thread, there's a .jpg of the finished texture.

Re: 40th Anniversary Edition

Well, that seemed to work although I'm not sure how to best package the solution. I've edited the model files and removed the original model efa.3 from did.dat. I've then created a new did.dat (from the files I happen I to have handy, which may not be complete) and moved the EF2000 models to a '3' f...

Re: API Documentation

The terrain extension example is not loading for me, although the solution as downloaded from the link in the tutorial builds fine.
The earlier 'Sample Extension' example loads OK, so I think my Registry values are correct.

Re: 40th Anniversary Edition

That's interesting. but it's all a matter of time really. The 'quickest' way to change the insignias in the 3dFX version is probably just to edit the .3 model files of the EF2000 to redirect the semaphore that gives the USAF markings to the plane That would save trying to reverse engineer the exe. F...

Re: 40th Anniversary Edition

No, I don't think it's worth the effort either but in principle, you could change the language to anything if you're careful not to exceed the length of the original strings. There are only English, French and German versions of the weapon pictures, but even those those could be edited in Deluxe pai...

Re: TFXplorer 2024.04.20

I'm a bit late to the party, but I've just installed this on a new PC and it works great!

In the Ace Combat instructions, you have "Extract to your UAW directory", but I think it should be the directory above that.

Re: 40th Anniversary Edition

Even V2.0 has a flag somewhere for installation language. The file 'mainmenu.gui' from V2.0 still contains some French and German text, and if I swap the words 'english' and 'german', so it's reacting to the word 'english' rather than taking the first position in the list. ef_mainmenu.PNG I can't fi...

Re: 40th Anniversary Edition

I think we can replace most of the English briefings, menus and weapons pictures with the French and German equivalents by swapping the appropriate files in did.dat.
What we probably can't do is change the messages that appear on screen as these are hard-coded in the exe.

Re: The 'Windows Help' system

Weird thing this that the original .hlp files for SEF2000 are now opening fine for me in Windows 10.
I can't remember if this some Windows component I've installed, or if it's arrived in an update.
It says it's using 'Windows Winhlp32 Stub'

Re: TFXplorer 1.3 RC

No Smartscreen warnings here.

I ran Install TAW, then entered the link to where the TAW did.dat is.

On running TFXplorer, I had access to the EF2000 scenarios as well, so it may be reading the existing registry entries or something.

Well, I didn't ask for things to be put in my registry.
This standard Windows 10 Pro. I haven't tried to secure it down.

Re: 💡 OPEN FEATURE: Installer

Those scripts don't work for me, but that's not surprising given my registry entries. I've tried tried to run the CD installer for ADF, and as it doesn't work on Win10, it's probably the old 16-bit type. It's the same situation with the EF2000 CD. So, these games are unlikely ever to have registry e...

Re: API Documentation

If you look in 'borders.txt' in the TAW 'f22data' folder, there are no fly zones defined around the religious sites of Medina and Mecca in Saudi and Axum in Ethiopia. I don't know if these were used in the game or was the 'leave immediately' warning just when you flew in enemy airspace in general. R...

Re: EF2000 Known File List

Great initiative!

We probably should tokenize the combined 'raw_names_lists' of all the DiD games, then produce our own LLM to feed into a AI powered hashing algorithm to spit out likely hits.
That's probably enough buzzwords to secure some investment. :D

Re: 💡 OPEN FEATURE: Installer

Weirdly, on this Windows PC, the only reg entries I have for Digital Image Design are Typhoon related (3dream,Hovis,Typhoon).
I thought I'd at run at least the ADF installer from CD, but maybe just copied the TAW and ADF installations from elsewhere.

There is a reg entry for TAW 2.0 though...

While surfing through archive org, I came across the magazine which contained the Amiga version of TFX:

Re: Graphics+ Patch

To be thorough, I found the English Graphics+ patch on a UK Magazine CD. It's dated 30th June 1997 and probably the same as we already have from elsewhere. It's Readme contains this: "The Graphics+ upgrade will also upgrade your version of DOS EF2000 to DOS EF2000V2.0." So, that doesn't so...

Re: Graphics+ Patch

Unfortunately, it seems you are right. I found this disk that specifically states it has the German Graphics+ patch, but after downloading the iso and extracting, I get exactly the same file as in the first post. Well, it was worth a try in case things got mislabeled over the years.... https://archi...
