Make a straight-in approach if you are a beginner, or a circuit approach if you have more experience. The autopilot can land the aircraft for you.

In order to land at an airfield you must have permission. Request permission to approach by switching to radio frequency one, (1) on your keyboard and from the menu pick option 2 AIRFIELD. Choose either option 5 CIRCUIT APPROACH if you are confident, or option 3 DIRECT APPROACH if you are a beginner.

Your Head-Up Display should now be in ILS Landing mode (if not, select it by pressing 1, or cycling through the HUD modes with H on the keyboard). If you have asked for a Circuit Approach you will be given permission to make a standard circuit approach: JOIN THE LEFT CIRCUIT FOR RECOVERY ON RUNWAY, plus the runway number.

If you have requested a Direct Approach line up the aircraft with the runway and fly it through the ILS markers. Your airfield approach speed should be 230 knots, reducing to 170 knots (power setting 57%), by the time you intercept the Glide Slope indicated by the ILS markers.

Keep your wings level and no later than half way down the Glide Slope lower your undercarriage by pressing G on the keyboard. It may help you to deploy the airbrakes by pressing B on the keyboard which, as soon as you touch down, also activates the wheel brakes which will give you the shortest possible stopping distance.

Keep the velocity vector in the HUD just beyond the touch down point on the runway (ie just beyond the 3, 2, 1, runway markers) until your altitude is 50 feet, then pull the nose up slightly so that the velocity vector is approximately half way down the runway. It may help your touchdown to reduce power to 55% (flight idle) at this time.

While on your final approach it is important to notify the tower by selecting radio frequency PUSH 1. Pick option 2 Airfield then choose option 6 FINALS from the airfield menu. This action will allow the tower to grant final permission for landing, or direct you to go around the circuit.

<c=r>If you have to do a wheels up landing due to battle damage, keep your aircraft as level as possible while making a very shallow slow and low approach.</c>
