A visual acquisition mode of attack is used when initial visual confirmation of a hostile aircraft is needed. This may occur when the nations involved are not at war but may be involved in a military stand-off or a 'show of force'.

Four unknown aircraft turn towards your CAP. The rules of engagement state that you must visually identify the bogeys before opening fire. Your two F-22s will maintain a separation of approximately one mile. You, as lead pilot must visually ID the contacts as bandits who intend to attack, while your number two is ready to fire immediately on your command at the trailing contacts.

Only you will come within the contacts visual range and you must turn to engage the enemy lead immediately after you have passed the trailing targets to your wingman and have given the command for him to attack. This tactic should quickly turn a 2-on-4 attack disadvantage to a 2-on-1 advantage.
